Santa Cruz, California - It's where I'm so lucky to live!

SC video  SC photos

Get "over the hill" to Santa Cruz from the airport...fast

Driving over "17" can be a challenging experience, especially in the rain and commuter traffic. Best to travel over without traffic so you can take in your first meeting with the coastal redwoods, which line the windy, 4-lane mountain highway.

Once you're there - check in where ever you're staying. Suggest getting an Air BnB on the westside of town near the beach. I got a sweet bungalow in the area for under $100USD/night.

Where to go for yoga and who to take a class from...

I'm so lucky to live in such a gorgeous place with so many soulful teachers to choose from, but here is my short list.

Downtown
Yoga Church with Hannah Muse - very heart opening www.hannahmuseyoga.com.

Hannah also teaches Momma/Baby and pre-natal classes at the Pacific Cultural Center.

Santa Cruz Yoga - Westside

Play yoga with Puja Chance at Santa Cruz Yoga on the westside Santa Cruz Yoga

If you dare, follow that up with a hearty vinyasa class with Erica Abramson at Santa Cruz Yoga. On Wednesday nights, stay for a third class - Yoga Nidra with Denise Lapides. A great way to end the day.

One of my current favorites is Daniella, who teaches a chakra balancing slow flow class on Friday mornings.

And...if you did those two back to back classes, you deserve a beer at Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery (right around the corner) or a pastry from Kelly's bakery - right next to the studio.

Divinitree - Midtown

Another option is to venture to midtown and check out Divinitree for ashtanga with Dawn, a fun and crazy class with Yogi Gregory, sound healing with Kim Malloy and/or Yin with Katie. Most of the teachers here are really good, so you pretty much can't go wrong.

Mount Madonna - Nearby in Watsonville

A true ashram with numerous retreats where you can stay and learn, go deeper into your practice, and enjoy beautiful vegetarian food. But there is a trick, you can drive up for the day, pay a day rate, take yoga classes, eat the yummy food, join the daily pujas, then go home! Mount Madonna
